The new committee members of BeCause did not sit on their laurels after being elected at the society’s recent AGM. Among the many initiatives being planned for 2014, the first was a visit to the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM) on 27th May 2014.
Every visit by BeCause members to a charity is not an ordinary visit to just offer some gifts, to exchange niceties or to fulfil an obligation. In line with BeCause’s objectives, a visit would have a 2-fold purpose:
Firstly, each visit is a personal education for its members to see first hand how the society is run, how well the inmates/ patients/ residents are treated, and what are the challenges and problems faced by the wonderful people behind the organization;
Secondly, after the visit, BeCause members will share their individual experiences of the visit and discuss what impacted them most. After that, members will brainstorm in which area BeCause can help to support the organization, both in the short and long term.
Once some ideas are decided, BeCause will send representatives to discuss with the charity and seek their approval of the idea and work together to implement it.
Datin Connie Chan, one of our BeCause members, commented, “The visit to NASAM was indeed a wonderful eye opener. The volunteers, the staff and of course the founder, Ms Janet Yeo are so enthusiastic and passionate to help the stroke survivors. This NGO is remarkably well run and one can’t help but be absorbed in its generous spirit of helping and giving. The smiles and joy on the faces of the strokees are indeed so gratifying!”
BeCause hopes that more members will benefit from such visits and stir in themselves the joyous spirit of sharing and giving to worthy and needy causes.
