The initiative involved on-site visits to various care facilities, revealing a substantial need for sustained and periodic health checks beyond basic care. A notable challenge emerged in serving individuals with mental health issues or uncontrolled bodily movements, requiring a nuanced approach.
The healthcare program’s scope concentrated on general health and eye care. The multidisciplinary team, comprising a paediatrician, eye specialists, general practitioners, a dermatologist, and a professor of internal medicine, showcased BeCause’s commitment to comprehensive care. Nurses and experienced volunteers collaborated to ensure a holistic healthcare approach.
During the programs, doctors reviewed patients’ records and current medications. Some patients were found to deviate from prescribed dosages, and medication contraindications were identified, necessitating modifications. For serious cases, referral letters were issued for hospital treatment. Notably, eye conditions requiring surgery found support from a partnering eye clinic, offering free operations under the BeCause Healthcare program.
Despite challenges, BeCause successfully executed two healthcare programs in 2023, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to making a meaningful impact.
