Rumah Caring Kajang Needs Your Help!

We first visited Rumah Caring Kajang in January 2012, and had kept in touch with Wendy Yap the caretaker since then. We were made aware during that visit that the neighbours staying nearby were not happy with the operations of Rumah Caring Kajang, which caused difficulties in renewing their MBKJ license. It seems that things have come to a head, as we received recent news that Rumah Caring Kajang is now facing problems associated with having to relocate to another place.

BeCause Secretary Patrick Chan, his wife Viviene and new member Julia together with her group of charity minded friends visited the home on 10 May 2015 to bring the good news to Wendy. The group also brought food and other items needed by the Home. One of the group members who had healing skills also gave free massage to the old folks who thoroughly appreciated the pain relief session.

Wendy updated the group on the current status of their plight. A kindhearted soul had offered a piece of land in Sg Tangkas, Bangi at a discounted price, but the land and the building costs would still come up to about RM1.5 million. Application had been made to Majlis Perbandaran Kajang sometime ago to convert the land to “kebajikan” status, but it is still pending to-date.

The home had been served eviction notices by the local council since 4 years ago. After numerous appeals, the final notice was to move out by end of this year. This posed a real concern for Wendy as she does not have the financial resources nor capacity to have the buildings up without help of sponsors and public donation. She added that she can close the Home but no one could provide an answer as to how to look after the Home’s 50 residents.

Visitors to Caring Home will notice that the home is well kept and clean with lots of flowers and fruits in the garden to make the surroundings pleasant.

All the old folks seemed contented and happy there. Wendy keeps them active and feeling useful by arranging motivational talks and giving them simple household assignments to do so that they stay mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging within a large family. It is very inspirational to know that she managed to achieve this despite also being involved in helping about 100 single mothers and their children by providing education and whatever resources she had in hand at the Home.

BeCause hope that kind hearted folks would join hands to help Wendy to build Caring Home a new building so that she can continue the good work she is doing to benefit many more who need such care and a home.

To this end, BeCause will be organizing something exciting September 2015 to help Rumah Caring Kajang. Stay tuned for more details!
