14 Help Institute college students wrote to BeCause to help them to fulfil their Study Skills volunteerism assignment. BeCause was happy to work out an appropriate program of activities for them so that they have a deeper feel for charity work.
The program started on 13th June, with a briefing at BeCause centre to introduce our organization and its objectives. One of our objectives is to empower youths to contribute more to Society and to remove the wrong notion that charity is only about money and belonged to the domain of rich and famous adults.
Kajang Caring Home’s caretaker Wendy Yap had earlier been looking for help to repaint the Home’s two houses.
This opportunity seemed timely and the job was suitable for the Help students as it is working indoor. Our President and wife kindly sponsored all the paint, painting tools and materials needed for the job.
On Saturday, 20th June, the painting effort started at 10am with some invaluable help from an elder from the Home who gave some tips to the students on how to do a professional painting job.
The students put in 5 hrs of solid work! Actually the painting part was easy. The preparation to move, cover and protect the furnitures, beds etc and getting the students to learn quickly how to mix paint and acquire basic painting technique was the challenging part.
The students worked diligently and completed the job ahead of schedule before 3pm. After cleaning up everything and making sure the beds and other furniture were back in their original places, the caretaker only had praises for them. We could see happy faces amongst the Home’s inmates.
What a wonderful and meaningful way for youths to spend a Saturday in this way!
